Email Validation and Other Small Changes - May 18, 2008, 11:02 AM EST Post by Tony
In an effort to reduce spamming, City-Wars now requires all emails to be verified before one can post. This change will not affect all of our current players and they will be able to use the forums without verifying their current email. However, if you change your email, you must verify it.

Other small changes:
1) The maximum bank withdraw has now been raised to 999,999,999 drachmas.
2) Several bugs that dealt with the forums have now been fixed.
3) The administration for the forums has changed slightly to facilitate moderation.
4) Players will no longer receive messages when they get an interest payment of zero drachmas.

GoodSearch - May 1, 2008, 9:48 PM EST Post by Tony
I urge everyone to use this new search engine.

It is called Good Search. Good Search donates $0.01 for every search made on their website. For those of us who do 20 searches a day, that means $0.20 will be donated to your favorite charity everyday. You are doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to earn money for your charity--now how cool is that.

The site uses the Yahoo search engine, so you know it is reliable.

So I ask everyone to please use www.goodsearch.com for all of their searches.

I am personally endorsing the Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund. I suggest that everyone use this as their default charity; however, I am not forcing you. You may choose whatever charity you would like.

Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund is a childhood cancer foundation dedicated to helping children with cancer and their families with emotional and financial support.

So remember: www.goodsearch.com and Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund

Year 1 Changes - February 2, 2008, 11:22 PM EST Post by Tony
Some of these changes have been implemented already.

1) Undelete button for moderators. Governors do not have access to this. Some governors like to clear away a city-state's forums before the end of an age. If I gave the governors the ability to undelete posts from a previous age, this method of hiding posts would be superfluous.

2) There is now a resign button for governors. When the governor resigns, the city-state is left without one until the next half hour update.

3) There are now donator forums for donators only. Flame away on these. They are for the people who pay for the website.

All of these updates were made during the last age, but I wanted to bulk them all into one news post. I will elaborate more on the updates on the forums, so click the discuss button to see additional information.

1) Players who have donated can now plug the clairvoyance stats directly into the attack calculator using the provided button.
2) Furthermore, players may now use these numbers to automatically attack the player with 99 turns.
3) Instead of using the bland "age 1" and "age 2" names for every new round, I have decided to use a new system of naming. This year will be the Peloponnesian War. The rounds will be determined in years. The next two years also have names, but they are surprises.
4) Players may now view basic attack stats in their own attack logs (this includes total wins, total losses, total drachmas stolen, etc), and players may also view attack stats of other players (these stats are just relevant between you and the player).
5) The message system has now been changed. There was actually a big vulnerability and it has now been fixed.
6) When a sneer backfires, they now show up in the attack logs.
7) The capture system has been changed. Please see the discussion for the specifics.

Password Recovery - December 4, 2007, 4:12 PM EST Post by Tony
I changed the password recovery system. Now, if a player requests the password, the IP address from which the password request came is included in that request. If anyone receives a password request and did not request their password, please provide me with the IP address so proper punishment can be delivered.

On a more personal note to the person who thought it would be funny to request my password: If you do it again and if I found out who you are, I will ban you.

To everybody: If you know who requested my password, and if you don't come to me with that information, I will ban you as well.

Have a nice day.

Age 11 Updates - December 1, 2007, 8:08 PM EST Post by Tony
I added a ton of new stuff this age. There will be some other changes which will happen throughout the age as I implement some of the great ideas you have all given me.

Here are a few things which I have changed already:

1) The attack logs: I have moved away from the previous attack log system and into a new system. This new system uses totally integers which means I am able to manipulate this data more efficiently. One of the implications of this is I could implement a way for players to view the player who has stolen the most drachmas off of him/her. Please note that currently the logs look aesthetically the same, but the code behind them is MUCH different. Lastly, these logs only show the last 24 hours of attacks for any player. You must click to see attacks over 24 hours old.

2) The city bank logs: These logs also introduced the integer system which I devised for the attack logs. This will allow the city governors to keep running totals of who donated what to the city. These are also aesthetically the same but use a different code.

3) Sneers: I changed sneer a tad bit. For players on Phoenicia, there is a 20% chance of backfiring. For players in any city-state, there is a 10% chance of backfiring. It no longer causes the city-honor to be depleted. Lastly, it now kills 5.5% of the players workers instead of the previous 2.5%.

One last comment: All of this is very new and untested. I normally add code in little bits, but changes such as these required a large overhaul in many files. There may be bugs, and if you experience them, please inform me. If you notice anything which is different than what happened before, tell me. Things may stop working, and I may not notice. I just want to make sure that everything that previously works, works now.

Player List Options - November 25, 2007, 9:01 AM EST Post by Tony
I added new options for sorting the players. The little up and down triangles next to the column headers can now be used to sort the players according to ranking, soldiers, and drachmas. Initially, this was supposed to be a tool for donators only; however, I felt gracious. I made it a tool for everyone to use. (And the coding to make it donator only would have taken me even longer to program). Anyway, enjoy the new feature.

Voting System - November 24, 2007, 7:48 PM EST Post by Tony
The voting system is slightly different. The governor is updated every half hour update. So if a player pulls ahead in the votes, that player must wait until the half hour update to become governor. Lastly, if a player becomes a cash cow, his vote no longer counts. The cash cow votes will be removed at midnight.

New Players - November 19, 2007, 3:37 PM EST Post by Tony
As many of you know, Athens was overtaken by several new faces. I received many scrolls expressing outrage in this act, and for those of you who follow the message boards, there has been a public outcry from the players of Athens and the players of other city-states. I am here to address these concerns in an official public notice. I tried to address all concerns, and if I miss any, please respond to this topic on the forum, and I will be more than happy to clarify.

1) The very first thing to address is whether or not this was a malicious act. It may appear that at first it was intended to be malicious. Please keep in mind that I am just working off of what I have seen on the boards. It appears icechiller737 joined Athens, became governor, and then lost his governorship and was exiled. In retaliation, he (may be a she, but I will go with he) asked for assistance from his friends. Him and his friends then proceeded to overthrow the city of Athens and exile every player. After reviewing this evidence and the additional evidence which I will present later, I have come to the conclusion that this was not a malicious act. It is extremely difficult to gauge intent, but I believe, beyond a reasonable doubt, that this act was just him lashing back at the city of Athens for his exiling. It may appear malicious to the recent citizens of Athens, but I assure you, that I doubt it was meant to "screw up the game permanently." Just remember that next age is approaching. There is a reason I only have one month ages and it is because of this. Additionally, because of this fact, I can not void the results of this round. These results will stand as a testament of what may happen.

2) My next concern is over the banning of these individuals. Seeing that it wasn’t malicious, I can not ban these individuals. What they did was not against the rules. I can, however, offer some advice. What they did was very unsportsmanlike, but at the same time, it is a possible representation of something that may have occurred during the time in which this game is set. I suggest that in the future, one attempts to make friends, rather than making enemies. I suggest that these individuals attempt to make reparations with the players they have offended.

2.5) A small note which goes along with the previous point, but messes up my overall flow of my address, is the following: I did a check on all of the players IP addresses. They are all very different and in no way point to being the same player. I checked them against known lists of proxy addresses, and none of them appeared on these lists. Additionally, after performing a traceroute and a more in depth analysis of icechiller737’s IP address, I have come to the conclusion that all these people are in fact not one individual, but they are each their own individuals. (Unless icechiller737 has discovered a way to travel at light speed, which I doubt.)

3) Seeing as most players are angered by what happened, I will offer reparations for these players. For those of you who were with Athens, I will supply all of you with two more relocates so you may try and find a new city-state. Additionally, I will provide the Athens city-bank records up until the very last day. If you join a new city-state, I will provide that city-state with all of the money you had contributed to your city-bank. To do this, please message me with the NET amount you had contributed (less what you may have withdrawn). Please message me for your relocates and money requests by this Friday. The sooner you get this to me, the better. I will shortly provide a link where one may view the city-bank of Athens.

4) The next issues I must address are causation and prevention. The cause was because of a bug. Initially, one could not become a governor if one was not in the top 60. Unfortunately, I changed the game and added another city-state (Phoenicia). This had messed up the delicate balance and the code which was used to determine eligibility for governorship. I have already implemented a couple features which have fixed this problem. To become governor, you must be within the top 60 and the ballot is limited to a maximum of ten people. So if a city-state only has five active players above rank 60, they will only have 5 players on the ballot. If a city-state has none above rank 60, they will have no one on the ballot. If a city-state has 15 above rank 60, only the top ten will be on the ballot. I will also be adding a system which will detect whether a player has been with the game for at least a month. This will rule out new players becoming governor. In addition to this, I am welcome to all suggestions which may improve this voting system. If you think these are horrible ideas, please speak up, and I will implement yours.

5) Ok, lastly, these are all the miscellaneous notes. It is important to remember that everyone must follow the rules. Do not curse out the new players, and these new players must remember note to curse out the older players. I do not want this breaking down into a flame war, and I don’t want to ban people. Let’s try and turn this situation around and use this as fuel for our competitive spirits. If anyone feels like this address was biased in anyway and you were not represented correctly or if you feel I should have handled this differently, please speak up. I tried to handle this situation as professionally as possible with as little bias as possible.

Supplies Requests - July 2, 2007, 10:01 PM EST Post by Tony
Players without city-bank access can now request funds from their governors. This system took two days to code (I was busy, so I had to code in my spare time) The bulk of the time was spent trying to find and eradicate bugs that could prove to troublesome. Additionally, I spent time trying to predict some suggestions for this new feature. I anticipated several features which I am sure a lot of you will like. There are more than 500 new lines of coding which also encompass the creation of two new pages and the heavy modification of two existing pages.

First let me go through the general run down of the feature. One may access the supplies request form from the Bank link. From there, a player without city bank access may make a request for a cost of 10 turns. The said player must then wait for the governor to respond to the supply request. The governor can access the newest supply request form from the Governor page or s/he may access all of the supply requests forms from a link which is accessible in the governor's page. The governor may choose to approve or deny any funds request for any amount. Throughout this time, the player who requested the supplies may check up on his or her recent requests on a link accessible through the bank page. After the governor approves or denies the request, the player may then either choose to accept the request or delete the request. Now, even if the governor approved a withdraw for 1,000,000 Drachmas and there are only 1,000 drachmas in the bank, the player will not be able to withdraw those drachmas until the bank has sufficient funds. So if you want to be a pain and request 9 trillion drachmas, go ahead. Even if the governor approves it, you will not be able to claim them. Additionally, the regular withdraw fees apply. So in order to accept the supply request, the player must have enough turns or drachmas to accept. Lastly, all of the accepted (not approved) supply requests will be posted in the city bank log.

Bank Revamped - June 28, 2007, 9:22 PM EST Post by Tony
I redid the bank page to optimize it for some additions that I will be adding. I am going to rework the possible ways to get funds from the city-bank which will include our current system, but also a system where users may send requests. I may seperate the tables into two tables - one for depositing and one for withdrawing, and, if you don't have access to the city-bank, the withdrawing table will be replaced with a funds/workers/soldiers request table. I am still undecided.

On a side note, I have added more admin features for me. I have also fixed some very small bugs (mostly with displaying unimportant information) I redid some coding to optimize it for heavier traffic. I am also dabbling in a little more javascript. (Note the javascript popup window which one may click on for help on the bank page.) This is part of a more general test on how I will impliment the help section into the game.

Governor Duties - June 25, 2007, 8:47 PM EST Post by Tony
I have moved all of the governor duties off of the Politics page. The governor now has his own page. If the governors will look on their Command Center or War Room and direct their focus on the city bulletins area, they will see that there is now a link titled "Governor Duties". The governor's can now access all of the previous governor duties (including issuing bulletins) through this link. The last page seemed rather crowded, so I moved everything onto this page.

2:45 - I have a script programmed that will make a copy of the player table that will be used as an archive for the awards and all accounts will be deleted. Then, the entire game will reset and we will begin AGE 6.

Worth of Website - June 17, 2007, 8:30 PM EST Post by Tony
I will not keep track of the worth of city-wars along with other aspects of the game. Here are the stats from May-June.

  • Base Worth - $392.00

  • Hours of Labor (est.) - 100 hrs

  • Total Expenses - $39.80

  • Total Profit - $71.23

  • Net Gain - $31.43

  • Selling Price - $2500.00

All of this information is available on the donate page.

Lastly, one may have noticed that it says selling price, and yes that means that City-Wars is for sale. I came up with that price using the worth of the site and adding my labor price to it.

Anyway, City-Wars is close to a year old, and in that year time 15% of all profits have been in this month of June, and this month is not even over. The amount of money from ads is up 147% and this month is not even over.

Next Age Features - May 27, 2007, 3:29 PM EST Post by Tony
I have implimented several features for next age. I have brought together some of the suggestions that were previously in discussion and modified some of them.

1. Negative Random Events - The negative random events have been toned down some. The negative random events now consist of the following: 1) Being sent to the belly of the whale (no change) 2) 250 workers die or if you don't have 250 workers, 1/2 of your workers (previously 500 workers or all your workers) 3) 10% of your attacking troops die (previously all of your attacking soldiers) These new random events are now in affect. On the programming side, I moved all of the random events into their own php file. This will slightly decrease the load time of the War Room.

2. Phoenicia - Everyone will now start in Phoenicia. When the new round begins, all players will be relocated to Phoenicia. Additionally, all new accounts which are made from now on will start in Phoenicia. On the programming side, this eliminates the system having to remove inactive accounts from city-states because those accounts will be moved at the beginning of ages.

3. Relocate - You can not relocate two times per age. All new accounts this age will be able given their two chances to relocate. To relocate, just go to your War Room. The form will not appear unless you still have relocations available. This combined with the last change is a perfect balance. Players who have been exiled or players who are removed from city-states due to inactivity can now join a city-state again. A side note - you can not relocate if you are a governor.

City-Tax - May 3, 2007, 7:51 PM EST Post by Tony
There is now a city-tax that can be taken directly from your HALF HOUR UPDATE MONEY. (This does not include your midnight update money) The city governor can set your cities tax. Then the tax will be taken directly from your update money and added to the city-bank. In testing this, I kind of messed up everyone's money and the city-banks money, so I set the city bank to a decent amount and reset everyone's money back down to 10k. On a side note, if you think your taxes are too high, talk to your city governor.

Now, Adam and Ash will have complete game master controls over the entire website (minus FTP access) They have the ability to ban whoever they want. So, if you break the rules, you are finished. Additionally, I really don't want to deal with any problems while I am in Italy or right after I return. This is everyones warning: if something serious happens and I get a phone call from my parents in Italy, the person responsible will pay. If that person broke any laws, I will press charges. Message Moderation - March 30, 2007, 3:22 PM EST Post by Tony
After a complaint, I felt it necessary to change the private message moderation system. Prior to this, City-Wars's staff was able to view every message. Now we no longer have access to every message. However, I implimented a system for you to report your messages. If you find something that breaks the TOS/Rules in a message, feel free to report it. To report a message, click on the message in your inbox. From there, you can click on a Report Message link, which is located next to the Go Back link. The moderation staff is then able to view the message (even if it is deleted by you or the other person). We can then act accordingly (sending out a warning or removing the players messaging system, if necessary)

Worker and Soldier Bank - February 28, 2007, 5:48 PM EST Post by Tony
The city-bank now exhibits a worker and soldier bank to which all the players of the city-state can contribute. For every worker you deposit, you get 1k. For every soldier you deposit, you get 1 turn. The cost to withdraw soldiers is the amount of soldiers you are taking multiplied by 1 turn and then rounded up to the nearest 50. The cost to withdraw workers is the amount of workers you are taking multiplied by 1,000 drachmas and then rounded up to the nearest 50,000 drachmas. Lastly, there are logs that track all of this, and any city-state player can withdraw or deposit without getting access.

Surge in Players - January 23, 2007, 10:13 PM EST Post by Tony
So in the past couple days there has been a tremendous surge of players, but there are some problems.

1. Our traffic has remained the same.
2. They are not signing up for anything else.

One might say this is circumstantial. Others might disagree, but there is one thing that I want to make clear. All these accounts WILL be deleted AND I will close down the game if this continues. The game is just something extra that I do because I want to contribute to the online gaming experience. I can easily close it down at my whim.

So in conclusion, anyone or everyone who is doing this: Stop.

When you visit the main page of the specific category you see a menu at the top which has all the sub pages. These subpages also have this menu at the top. In addition to that, when you visit your war room you are given a list of updates, such as how many messages you have. In a very short time, I plan to add a drop down on the navigation list for the category when you click on the main category header.

Sacrifice and Dead - December 29, 2006, 4:24 PM EST Post by Tony
Sacrifice has been changed a little. Sneer of hades no longer kills undead, only dead. Plus when people are sneered, the dead soldiers and workers are added to their dead total. The same goes for attacking: all soldiers and workers who die now go into the total dead. (all of which can later be resurrected)

When you fail you no longer end up in the belly of a whale... you just lose your men or drachmas you went to sacrifice. Also, when you succeed in sacrificing men, they no longer go into your pool of dead people to resurrect. Although, the failed sacrifice of men still results in men going into your pool of dead soldiers.

The way the lottery is calculated has been changed... now you will win an amount of money everytime, but the amount varies.

Sneer of Hades - October 22, 2006, 8:56 PM EST Post by Tony
Sneer of Hades is now changed. This is how sneer of hades works now:
1. 1/100 undead are killed
2. 1/400 soldiers are killed
3. 1/400 workers are killed

Sneer of Hades has been turned into an undead killing tool. I did some calculations, and the undead, at the highest possible cost to get them, are worth the hassle to get. So in the average scenerio, they are horribly overpowering. Now there is a way to combat this.

Tweaks - October 22, 2006, 3:18 PM EST Post by Tony
OK, so I made a lot of tweaks. The amount of sacrifice points you recieve for sacrificing soldiers is now a random number between 1000 and 10000. It is calculated everytime you sacrifice, so it is not constant. The bug where people were still able to attack others that were inside a whale was fixed. Well actually I never found the bug, but I now made it impossible to attack by throwing a patch on there. I changed the Buy Weapons page around a bit. Sasha changed it to the view we have now, but I made the buy column before the sell column. I thought it was more natural. Praying for Blessings has been changed drastically. The tiers have changed, and so have the amounts of blessings you recieve for each tier. Tier 2 is at 25,000,000 and tier 3 is at 50,000,000. Hades is now in tier 2 and 3 only. You get 1 hades for tier 2 and 3 for tier 3. Siege has been reduced to 1, 3, and 5 for tiers 1, 2, and 3 respectively. Speed upgrade is now tier 3. Hades now kills 1/100 of all the undead. So it is now dependant on the amount of undead a person has. There is a new blessing named salvation which is a tier 1 blessing and removes you from a whale. There is now a random chance that your sacrifice will not be accepted. There is now a maximum amount of soldiers you can buy. It is the amount of people in the game multiplied by 100 (which is also the maximum amount of soldiers there can be on each day).

City-Change Changed - October 13, 2006, 5:04 PM EST Post by Tony
It is now named treason. I also changed some stuff around. When you change your city you can not use the city-bank until three days have passed. This is to avoid the common change people, and it is also to help deter people from stealing money from other city-banks and then moving back to their own, although this would cost much more to the said person. This city-bank limit also goes further then just the treason blessing. When someone signs up, they can not use the city-bank for three days. This will keep people like Elite from being banned. When a new age starts, you can use the bank right away if you have been with the city-state for more than three days. I hope that is clear.

I Decided to Fix the Game - October 9, 2006, 4:45 PM EST Post by Tony
OK, so I decided to fix a bunch of things, and add others. First thing is I fixed a bug in the pray for blessings page. Whenever you bought an upgrade for attack or defense it did not calculate your new attack and defense. Sneer of hades now sneers 15 undead, 25 soldiers, and 75 workers. The capturing bug where you could capture when inside a whale was fixed. When you buy soldiers your soldier campaign upgrade level now gets added to the amount you bought, free of charge. When you sacrifice soldiers you now get only 75% of the price of the soldiers, instead of the full 100%. Lastly, I updated the random events formula. I used a switch, not an array Sasha, to calculate which random event you recieve. So now the ones in the beginning of the random event list are just as likely to happen as the ones at the end.

Two small changes in blessings. I fixed a bug that caused your attack and defense not to update when you bought upgrades for the two. If you were one of these people, just buy a small weapon and sell it and it should update. The second update is sneer of hades now sneers 25 undead too. Just as a confirmation, when you sneer someone you totally whipe out that person's soul. They are then totally destroyed and are not added to the undead. Happy sneering

I increase the power that defense soldiers contribute. Defense soldiers are now multiplied by 0.3 instead of 0.1.

Sneer of Hades has been boosted because of the new workers casualties. I see that it is easier to just attack someone instead of using sneer. So now Sneer of Hades kills 50 soldiers and 100 workers.

Attack Changed - October 3, 2006, 7:04 PM EST Post by Tony
The new formulas:

Defense Number = targets soldiers * .1 + targets workers * .01 + targets undead * .5
Attack Number = your attacking soldiers * .5 + your attacking undead * .75 Difference = Attack Number * your attack - Defense Number * targets defense
If Difference > 2000 * Targets defense upgrade level then you can attack.

Workers can now be killed at this rate: The Workers Dead = The Drachmas Stolen * .000065 -- This number is rounded

Soldier casualties have been raised to a maximum of 15 for the defender and 5 for the attacker.

Sacrificial Blessings - October 2, 2006, 7:20 PM EST Post by Tony
Ok, sacrifice is now up and fully working, and there is many angles that everyone has to follow.

Firstly here are the blessings and what they do:

Caduceus of Hermes - Add 1 to speed level **
Spear of Ares - Add 1 to attack level **
Aegis of Zeus - Add 1 to defense level **
Clairvoyancy of Apollo - Unlimmited get stats with 5 turn cost no fail rate
Metis of Athena - Change your race at your will once *
Sneer of Hades - Kill 50 workers and 10 soldiers *
Muster Undead - Raise the undead to give yourself an army that can not be killed ***
Godly Siege - You destroy your opponents cash and take 10 percent of that *

* Tier 1 gives you one of these bonuses, tier two three bonuses, tier three five bonuses
**All level modifiers CAN push you over level 10.
*** You get 300 men for tier one, 500 for tier two, and all of your dead for tier three

Tier one bonuses cost 2,000,000 Tier two costs 3,500,000 Tier three costs 4,500,000

In order to get tier one blessings you need to have sacrificed 2,000,000, tier two 10,000,000, tier three 20,000,000.

Some blesings are instant, while others let you use them at your discretion.

If you are killing soldiers and workers and the player does not have 50 workers or 10 soldiers left you automatically kill the rest of them. Destroying money is capped off at 5,000,000. Both of these show up in attack logs.

Well I think that is everything you need to know. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Soldiers and Workers - October 1, 2006, 11:22 AM EST Post by Tony
Yes it has finally come. You now have soldiers and workers, and this is how it will work. Your workers are your sole source of income. So you no longer recieve money from soldiers, but soldiers are as equally as important. You need soldiers to attack and defend, and if you do not have them, then you will simply not be able to do either. You now have to send soldiers to attack. These soldiers that are sent out to attack will return at a rate of 10% per update and all of them will automatically return at midnight, and once they are sent away, they do not help you defend. Their is a new attack formula to go along with this which you can see by clicking the discuss button. Back to soldiers and workers. In order to get soldiers you must improve the living conditions. You can buy this through the upgrade page. The number of workers you get per update is the same as your living condition upgrade. The number you get at midnight is your living condition upgrade multiplied by 10.

Recruit - September 28, 2006, 3:42 PM EST Post by Tony
I have been working on recruit and added a few new things. First thing is that you can now see who has clicked for you. If the person is not logged in, they will be listed as anonymous. The next thing is that the level of your soldier campaign upgrade now gets added to the total number of soldiers you recieve when someone clicks your recruit link. On the buy soldiers page there was a problem with calculating the price of the soldiers. If you jumped into a new price bracket the price of the soldiers did not update, but now they will. Last, but definately the biggest thing is that I am now running all the IP addresses that clicked on peoples recruit links through popular proxy lists. That means if you are caught, you will be deleted, and I am always searching for new proxy lists.

Todays First Large Update - September 25, 2006, 6:08 PM EST Post by Tony
There is a new place and random event. You can now be thrown into the belly of a whale. If you are thrown into the whale you must pray for turns to get out. If you have already prayed for turns twice, you must wait until tomorrow to pray to get out. During the time you spend inside a whale you do not get half hour updates.

The random events are no calculated different. If you recieve a random event a number is added to the mysql table. You will then be notified by the normal method - a bold new message will be placed next to the check random event page. Then when you click on that page the coding within the page handles giving out the random event. So you will recieve the random event immediatly visiting that page.

Defense credits have been removed from the game. I also removed the attack button on the navigation bar.

In addition, I'm going to be adding minor random events of other types, such as random events when you attack, so be on the lookout for those, because I'm only gonna post them if they're of paramount importance.

Change in Signup, Bank, and Text - September 18, 2006, 9:23 PM EST Post by Tony
The biggest change is now with the signup. If a player tries to join a city-state that has more than double players than the lowest city-state, they are not allowed to join. This is to keep tons and tons of people from joining one planet. That means that currently one more person can join Delphi and then no one else can join until Athens gets some people.

The city banks now have the newest statement news at the top rather than the bottom. The current bank statements will stay the same, except the new statement information will be posted at the top rather than the bottom.

I also fixed some outdated text from the Solar Conflict Clone. I forgot to include Drachmas in some pages and left the race Phoenixes still on the signup page.

Planet Bank and Send Money - September 17, 2006, 12:18 PM EST Post by Tony
There is now a planetery bank that anyone on your planet can use. There is a bank statement that is printed on the page where you can see who is cheating the system and taking all the money. The fee for the bank is exactly like your personal bank fee except it calculates depending on the amount you withdraw rather than how much is in there. There are no lines in this bank so you can withdraw as many times as you like.

This bank pretty much nerfed send money, so I made it possible to send money to anyone in the entire game, but the transfer rate applies.

Random Events - September 17, 2006, 1:48 AM EST Post by Tony
Did some changes with random events. You now see the time when the random event happened, well actually you theoretically see the time. I really couldn't test it, and all I could do was double check the code. While on the subject on the code. I noticed the update code was absolutely horrific, so I changed it slightly to make it run a little bit faster. Last, but not least, you can no longer recieve the random events for plus two clicks for money or turns if you have not clicked once yet. I forgot about a very simple way of doing that, but stupid me, I did not realize how easy it was.

Teams - September 14, 2006, 10:42 PM EST Post by Tony
I will be instituting a new team play, but it will take some time to develop the concept and program it, unless someone has an easy way of doing it.

So until then, if you want, you can put in your planet you would like to be on. If another person requests to be on Delphi, and no one wants to leave from Delphi, I am sorry, I will have to deny your request. But if someone wants to join Athens, Sparta, or Corinth, they are more than welcome.

So get in your requests now, or before the start of the next beta. I will switch your planet as soon as this beta ends and the one week break begins.

New Administrator - September 13, 2006, 10:12 PM EST Post by Tony
I am pleased to announce that we have a new administrator. Sasha is now an admin for both the game and the forums. He has all of the abilities that I have except he can not edit the code, yet. He can ban on the game and he can run any sql queries he wants. This means that if anyone exploits a bug, he can totally ban you, or set your stats to zero.

Item Market - September 13, 2006, 6:58 PM EST Post by Tony
There is now a new market in Phoenicia. The item market is where trades that are unanswered for more than 3 days go. The messenger that you sent out to deliver the trade obviously could not find the receiver of the trade, so they went to phoenicia to try their luck.

Flavor Text - September 13, 2006, 4:07 PM EST Post by Tony
I have been adding some flavor text around. This is going to be my post telling people that there most likely will be more flavor text added, and I will most likely not say anything else about it. You will see it though when you click buttons and visit pages.

If you want to be able to flame, you must join the flamethrowers group.

This is to keep people who do not want to see this from viewing that forum.

If your age in your profile is not over 18, I will not accept your application.

Captured Soldiers - September 12, 2006, 9:34 PM EST Post by Tony
Now when you fail a capture mission and your opponents men find you, they capture you and put you in prison. Your target then is allowed to convert your soldiers to their army for 1k Drachmas per soldier.

Trade and Bank - September 12, 2006, 8:22 PM EST Post by Tony
There were some changes just added yesterday, but I didn't have the time until now to tell you all about them.

I instituted a trade option that comes with a few rules to help minimilize abuse. The rules are as follows: Specify what you would like to sell, the price per item, the number of items, and a short message, which is obligatory. Please remember that you can not sell something for more than it is worth, less than the selling price, or if you do not own it. Also, when you initiate a trade the item is automatically removed from your weapons until the person accepts or declines the trade. Once a trade is sent, it not not reversable.

After you accept a trade, the money from the trade comes from your money at hand and is automatically deposited into the bank of the person who sold you the item. If you deny the trade, the weapon is returned to the persons inventory.

Lastly, I changed the deposit and withdraw all buttons slightly.

This is how the reset will go down.

2:30 - The very last half hour update. After this there will be no more money or turns updates until post reset.

2:43 - I have a script programmed that will give me a printout of everyone's stats. This means that you must make your purchases before this point or you will be screwed.

2:44 - The entire game will reset starting our 1 week vacation where you can play around as much as you want, and check out the new features as I add them.

Call me the Orken Man - August 24, 2006, 12:44 PM ESTThere were some bugs that were fixed. The sacrifice all button was fixed. The messages for the random events were fixed. Lastly, when you withdraw 0 galos it no longer charges you one turn. There were also some things added. Recruit was added, meaning we can finally bring some people in by giving out your recruit link. I also added a button that you can click to automatically retry to get people's stats.

Bank Withdraw Fee - August 21, 2006, 12:23 PM EST Post by Tony
I changed the bank around a bit. I figured that people holding a million plus drachmas in the bank shouldn't have to pay 100 turns to withdraw 128k to buy a weapon. So I made it that if you withdraw less than 130k it costs less turns, but there is a catch. Right now I have logs and I will run a script to check if people are unbanking multiple amounts of 129,999. But soon I will be limiting the amount of withdraws within a short period of time... something like 1 withdraw a minute. You will probably see this in the next update.

Messages - August 19, 2006, 2:32 PM EST Post by Tony
You can now sacrifice some of your soldiers instead of just money. The following messages have been spiced up a bit: Attack results, capture mission results, converting results, moving results, pray for money, and pray for turns.

Altar and Bio - August 19, 2006, 2:55 AM EST Post by Tony
There is now a sacrificial altar where you can sacrifice money (and soon weapons and soldiers, but not animals because I am a member of peta2) to the gods. This will give you bonuses that have yet to be decided. There is also now a biography of me located on the navigation toolbar underneath the privacy policy

Name Change - August 18, 2006, 11:41 AM EST Post by Tony
I changed the name of the game to City-Wars: Battle for Peloponnesia. I changed all the pages including the forums to reflect this name change. I registered a free domain today. It isn't the best domain, but it is better than my IP address. You can now use that adddress - http://www.city-wars.co.nr/ - instead of using my IP address. If the site ever goes down I can point that domain to another URL. And lastly, I added a donate button which is at the bottom of the navigation bar.

Minor Update - August 18, 2006, 12:47 AM EST Post by Tony
The Navigation bar layout has been changed to a catagory view. Also Convert Captured Soldiers and Switch Race have been changed to Prisoner Training and Training Room respectively. You can expand or contract this navigation bar by going to the layout page. Ranking has been changed back to an average of everyones attack and defense on the planet, but it only includes the people who were active in the last two days instead of the last week. Slot machine multipliers have been added to the page so you know how much you win relative to your bet. You are now no longer confronted with that ugly "404 Error - Page does not exist" error when you visit a page that does not exist. I fixed I believe all the display bugs where certain pages refused to say you were in the Far East when you actually were. Last, but not least, I finally fixed the bank bug where you would withdraw and it would bring you into negative turns.

Genre Update - August 17, 2006, 2:07 AM EST Post by Tony
Ok, after a long time of making changes... or just a lot of changes, I thought I would update. I have decided to catagorize them.
First the genre change. If you have not noticed we have moved the game into more of an ancient Greece setting.

Genre changes:
All the names of the planets have been changed from Earth, Mars, Venus, Jupiter, and Pluto to Delphi, Sparta, Corinth, Athens, and Phoenicia respectively.
The name of the money has been switched from Galos to Drachmas.
There is now a new area (previously planet) call the "Far East." This will be replacing Pluto, or Phoenicia, in a lot of aspects.
Your messages are now scrolls. All the buttons and page names have been changed to reflect that.
A lot of the messages you recieved have been changed. Like when you try and do stuff you can't do because you don't have enough turns.
The Stock Market has been changed to Merchant Trading and you must now be in Phoenicia (Pluto) to use it, but it has no fees so it can be used as a bank.
The get money and get turns buttons have been changed to praying buttons where you can pray to the gods.
All the random events messages have been remade.
All the race names have been switche to common names for everyone. These can be viewed in the race chart.
The names of the forums have been fixed to mimic the game.

Bug Fixes:
Slot machine bugs ironed out. There are way to many to list.
The bug where people were showing up as being on their home planet instead of in the Far East has been fixed.
That is the list that I can remember. There was tons of other stuff that I did that I can't remember or is too trivial to list.

Beta 1 Ended Successfully - August 15, 2006, 3:55 PM EST Post by Tony
The beta ended successfully. Congrats to all of the winners. You can see who won and all the stats of everyone at the Beta Awards and Beta 1 Archive Page.

Beta 2 will begin at 2:44 PM on August 22nd. I have a script that will restart it. That means that if you want to change your race, ask me to do it or do it now. You will see a whole bunch of features that will be added and some stuff, like your attack logs, may not look right. Do not worry about this; these will all be fixed.

Big Business Taking Over Internet - August 11, 2006, 12:08 AM EST Post by Tony
Not really a game update, but I want everyone to be aware of this. In my last issue of Popular Science Magazine I saw an article explaining how big business wants to limit the internet. I say fight back against this and visit these sites. Also you can click this sentence to visit some information about it and to see a cool music video.

WeAreTheWeb.org
FreePress.net
SaveTheInternet.com

Keep the internet free. Big business like Verizon, Comcast, and AT & T are trying to make pages that you visit for free cost money to visit. Think about paying extra to visit web pages you already visit for free.

That means websites, like this game, will be slower or not even accessible to you. Let me ask you this, do you want your internet taken away from you? I sure don't.

Rankings - August 10, 2006, 3:23 AM EST Post by Tony
I forgot to mention this but the way rankings are calculated is now changed. it is now a total of everyone's attack and defense divided by every planets total. Instead of having it as an average, which was really messing up planets with tons of active players vs a planet with 1 or 2 good active players, it is now just a total. I also fixed two typos on the transfer pages.

Send Soldiers- August 10, 2006, 2:42 AM EST Post by Tony
You can no longer send soldiers to people with more soldiers than you. This is to keep players from doing what happened in this beta (beta 1) from happening again. But because of this change there is no transfer rate for soldiers because the person with more soldiers will most likely be paying a high price. You can also no longer send more than 1/2 of your soldiers.

Bank - August 8, 2006, 2:31 PM EST Post by Tony
There were 2 bank changes today. The first is now you get interest at midnight. This is a tiered system, so the more money you have in, the greater percentage of interest you recieve. Here is the percentage.

If your bank is less than 1,000,000, you get 3% interest.
If your bank is more than 1,000,000 and less than 10,000,000, you get 4% interest.
If your bank is more than 10,000,000 you get 5% interest.

The second change is regarding the deposit and withdraw fees. First the deposit fee has been abolished, but the withdraw fee is now a tiered system dependent on how much money you have in the bank currently.

0 - 49,999 - 1 turn
50,000 - 99,999 - 5 turns
100,000 - 199,999 - 15 turns
200,000 - 399,999 - 25 turns
400,000 - 749,999 - 40 turns
750,000 - 999,999 - 75 turns
1,000,000 - 9,999,999 - 100 turns
above 10,000,000 - 200 turns

Clear Logs - August 5, 2006, 2:09 PM EST Post by Tony
At the urging of a player... a very annoying player at that, I created an option to clear your logs. You can clear them for yourself but others will still be able to see all your attacks. There was a small problem I encountered when updated the files, so some of you might have lost all your attacks, all your defendings, or a combination of both. I am sorry about this, but it shouldn't happen again. (It was because I was manually changing values when people were attacking and such.)

Send Soldiers and Pluto Bugs Fixed - August 4, 2006, 2:23 PM EST Post by Tony
When you send soldiers, the transfer fee soldiers now return to the soldiers that people can buy during the day. Also, two Pluto bugs were fixed. You were allowed to play the lottery six times, although you are only supposed to be able to play it five times. The second bug fixed was just a message error when you recieved someone's stats.
